My story of weekend forager starts before I was born, when my paternal grandparents purchased 16 acres in the Santa Cruz mountain range in unincorporated Santa Clara County, CA in the 50’s and my maternal great great grandparents came to California from Portugal eventually owning farmland in Campbell, CA. I’ve lived here (on Muwekma Ohlone land) my entire life and spent lots of time in the wilderness and love growing food. I think forming a bond with the earth and plants is one of the most important things we can do for our health and the health of the earth and our fellow humans. When I had my first child, I wanted him to feel comfortable with identifying and eating common plants found in the wilderness here and I’ve tried to share the little knowledge I have with him and the world in order for others to form a relationship with the earth too.
